Mendel's laws of inheritance

Mendel's laws of inheritance

There are four laws of inheritance given by Mendel.

1) Concept of factors

2) Law of Dominance

3) Law of segregation

4) Law of independent assortment

According to concept  of factors,each trait will be controlled by a pair of factor.

eg.TT is controlling tallness in pea.

Law of Dominance is applicable in hybrid condition.eg Tt is for tallness.

T is dominating factor and t is recessive.

During the gametogenesis,the pair of factor will separate out.This is Law of segregation.

Law of independent assortment is applicable for dihybrid cross.

According to this law each and every factor have equal potential to form new combinations in second generation of Dihybrid cross.

eg F 2 ratio for YYRR   X    yyrr   will be 9:3:3:1

NEW TRANSFORMATION IN EDUCATION

I think education and hard work is the only tool to get rid of poverty.Poverty in the biggest obstacle in 21st. century.If we are born as poor its not our mistake;if we die as poor than surely its are fault.We need to see and execute our dreams.Without big dreams we cannot evolve....

Education  for smart generation-

Meaning of quality education  has changed in 21st century.These changes are quite visible.My four years old son was telling me that banks are those places which will give us money .Banks have security guards .I asked my wife that when you have gone to bank along with Shiven (my son).

She replied that I have never gone there with him.I was surprised and asked my son about this.He told me that he has seen in cartoons that banks have security personals and money.He also told me that dole (Muscles) have power.He also counted six packs.

This informal education through cartoons was not there during our time.We have explored different sources of knowledge and I think this is new paradigm shift.How to explore different sources of knowledge and develops independent thinking in kids should be the main task of educators and parents.

We all are worried about the old age if we are working in a private sector .Old pension scheme is no more even for government employees.Life expectancy have increased due to better medical facilities and with that medical expenses have also gone up.

When we are earning money in the beginning of our career we often forget to do the financial planning.If we can create financial literacy among the new generation then it will be very important for them to manage their finance in an  effective way.

Some important steps for financial planning are-

2) Identification of goals

3) Keeping inflation in view & right asset allocation

4) Sufficient term plan and Health insurance

5) To be consistent in planning

6) Having emergency funds.

It is rightly said that the  early bird catches the worm.If we start SIP (systematic investment plans) in the beginning of our professional career then we can beat the inflation through the longer time horizon.Equity and debt which one is better?If we have longer time horizon then we can go for equity.
Pure term plans are always better than traditional money back plans.Traditional plans are having very low returns.
We should have separate portfolio for different goals.

International Biological Engineering conference at JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) from March 26-28, 2017)

Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest:- S.S. Chandrasegaran, Johns Hopkins University after Lightening the lamp.

Welcome address was given by V.Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata followed by Introduction of iBEM by Prof. Pawan K. Dhar, SBT, JNU around 10 AM on March 26^th 2017.

After tea Keynote address was presented by: S.S.CHANDRASEGARAN, Johns Hopkins University on topic Rewriting the blueprint of life by synthetic genomics.

Post lunch session was chaired by ATUL JOHRI, SLS and AMULYA PANDA, from National Institute of Immunology (NII).

The main speakers were-UTTAM SURANA, IMCB, Singapore & GUHAN JAYARAMAN, IIT Madras.

The most amazing session was panel discussion on Entrepreneurship and Policy and session

CHAIR was SATYAPRAKASH DASH, BIRAC, New Delhi (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council)

The main panellists were MRUTUYNJAY SUAR, KIIT Bhubneshwar, SHRIRAM RAGAVAN, Evolva Biotech, Chennai & RAVI BHOLA, K & S Partners, Bangalore.

This session gives insight and solution for legal and other technical aspects of Genetic Engineering based Entrepreneurships.

First day was concluded by poster presentation at 6 PM.

Our students were having informal talks with research scholars from different institutions.

The dinner was served near the convention centre.

Day 2-Session was started with the Keynote of BALAJI PRAKASH, CFTRI, Mysore (Central Food Technological Research Institute) on Designer proteins for the synthetic cell.

Session by SIVAPRAKASH RAMALINGAM, IGIB, New Delhi on

Targeted Genome Engineering using Programmable Site-specific Nucleases and SHAILJA SINGH, JNU, New Delhi on Genome editing approaches and applications in malaria was a real time examples of application of Biotechnology to solve modern world problems.

Dr Shailja Sing demonstrated the role of molecular players such as CDPK and Perforin like proteins in the process of merozoites egress from host erythrocytes in her presentation.

Session about the Protocell:cell communication was presented by Dr. Sudha from IISER, Pune.

Last session of the day was on  CRISPR/Cas9 based genome editing tool box and it was over by 6 PM.

Post dinner we had a long walk in JNU Campus escorted by Ankita and refreshed by Mango shake in JNU.

DAY 3 TUESDAY, MARCH28, 2017-

 Last day of Conference was started with TUTORIAL by VIKRAM SINGH from CUHP, Dharamshala on Designing gates and networks .This session was very difficult for us to understand designing different circuits to mimic the biological systems.

We went to visit Centre for Nano science to see working of PCR ,Gel electrophoresis and JNU library.

iGEM [International Genetically Engineered Machines] session were chaired by ANDREW M. LYNN, SCIS and VIBHA TANDON, SCMM.

 A short session on robotics- use of artificial intelligence along with 3D-printer was presented.

Finally conference was ended with Valedictory session and vote of thanks by Dr.SHAILJA SINGH from SCMM JNU, Dr. Ravichandrian from NIPER, PAWAN K. DHAR of SBT,JNU.

Learnings-

Boarding schools play very vital role for grooming the personality of child. But this grooming needs directional approach by teachers, housemasters and parents.

In boarding schools hyperactive children are much more as compared to day schools. The boarding schools of India has very good track record for bringing up many great personalities. Today boarding schools are facing the problems of lack of trained teachers/human resource. In India B.Ed colleges are not giving any precise training to pupil teachers about the working culture of boarding schools. It seems that education department and HRD ministry ignore the role of boarding schools in spreading the education.

Management of day school vs. boarding school, teaching skills, decentralization of powers, role of student council and school captains, emphasis on co-curricular activities in both type of schools are totally different.
We have colleges to train teachers but School principals and headmasters are the actual leaders who create future leaders.In India we don't have any competent authority for the training of these education leaders.Recently CBSE has tried to introduce PET (Principal eligibility test ) but later on they have dropped this idea.School is the reflection of Principal and his educational philosophy.He /She is responsible for moulding the future of teachers and kids.We must ensure the availability of such competent leaders through well organised training and courses in order to have a better output.

 Teacher has to play dual role in boarding schools i.e. teacher as well as guardian. In India the quality of teachers are very poor because of low salary package as compared to other professions. Teaching is last option in front of youth of this country. Without proper training of teachers and not giving adequate salary the standard of education cannot be improved.Govt. along with private sector should come forward to improve the overall standard of education in India and to make India as developed nation in 21th century.

Freedom will develop creativity.Creative kids will become innovative.We need innovative approach to solve different social issues.Innovation in the mother of new discoveries.Freedom with or without supervision of parents ,teachers can be an issue to debate.I think parents are wise enough to find the answer depending on the nature of task of problem.If a task is having high risk then supervision is essential.Today's youngsters are disobedient...This is a common observation of most of the parents.If we listen them without having any preconceived notions then and only then they will approach us to share their ideas and problems.Listening is most important.Kids must be having lot of ideas in their mind.We need to accept their ideas after giving right input and we can see the magic.

Children may have some silly non pragmatic ideas.Still we need to encourage them.Thinking can create ideas and encouragement will lead to idealization.As a parent or teachers we must have to act as a catalyst.We are the catalyser of 21th century.Teach ,reteach ,positive feedback and the followup is essential for the development of creativity among the  youngsters.

The neuro- plasticity of mind is still there.Always promote open discussions for developing brain cells. Expand new horizons can be a booster for nurturing creativity.Open discussion may derail some time .As an adult we need to act as a silent moderator in these discussions in order to provide a right directions. 

There are many problems in world.We need to think ,speak and act positively in order to develop creativity.The new solutions of these problems will come due to new out of box innovations.Without creativity how we can be innovative?
